Alpine Snowsports Centre

Southampton (26.5 miles)

You don’t even need to ski or snowboard to enjoy the 150-acre outdoor sports centre where you can whizz down the slopes on an inflatable donut!


Basingstoke (32 miles)

As well as the 25m pool, this is one of the largest flume attractions in the country with three large flumes, rushing rapids. Interactive water features for toddlers, spa pool and a baby beach.


Farnham (28 miles)

Nestled within the Alice Holt Forest, with a 26-acre park, Birdworld is one of the largest bird parks in the country. It is home to hundreds of unusual birds, a farm, aquarium and garden centre, so there’s plenty to keep everyone happy for a full day.

Blue Reef Aquarium

There are sharks, rays, tropical and native fish as well as amphibians, reptiles, otters and crustaceans to see. Regular talks and feeding displays. Located on Clarence Esplanade with views of the Solent, so don’t forget to bring a towel, bucket and spade to make the most of the aquarium’s outdoor Blue Reef Beach Club with a sandy beach and splash play area.

One of the largest outdoor adventure centres in Britain with dry slope skiing, a climbing wall, velodrome cycling and watersports. Multi activity days or half days can be booked in the school holidays so children can experience different activities. There are also ‘No Limits’ days which aim to make every activity accessible for disabled children and their siblings.

Hawk Conservancy Trust

There are over 150 birds of prey, from the tiny Pygmy Owl to the impressive Steller’s Sea Eagles. Watch daily flying demonstrations, feeding sessions and fascinating keepers’ talks, or take part in one of the Birds of Prey Experience Sessions.

Hollycombe Working Steam Museum

Britain’s largest collection of working steam offers all the fun of a traditional steam funfair. Ride on a small steam train and see how steam power transformed transport, farming and estate management. Dogs on leads permitted.

Ifly Indoor Skydiving

Always wondered how it would feel to skydive but don’t want to commit to booking a flight on a small plane? Well, how about having a go indoors? This incredible centre also offers indoor climbing and the chance to try surfing without getting wet.

With a 7 metre, 4 lane, astro glide, a fast spiral slide, and football and shooting galleries, this soft play centre has something to suit 0-12 year olds.


Windsor (50 miles)

A theme park with over 55 interactive rides. There are live shows, building workshops, driving schools, a splash-park and lots of lego. Closed November to mid-March. Some wheelchair accessible rides.

Longdown Activity Farm

Ashurst (26 miles)

Join the daily schedule of activities looking after the animals. Bottle-feed the kid goats and calves, feed the ducks, meet the pigs and cuddle the baby rabbits, chicks or even piglet. Open mid-February to November and for Christmas attraction. No dogs permitted, but free lockable kennels are available in the car park.

Manor Farm and Country Park

Hedge End (13 miles)

Location for the filming of BBC’s Wartime Farm series, Manor Farm has been a working farm for over 600 years. Today costumed characters bring the Victorian farm to life, from traditional farm machinery at work to what’s cooking in the farmhouse kitchen, as well as meeting the animals. Set in 400-acre park, with woodland and riverside walks. Open year-round.

Set in a 140-acre park, with play areas, café and free road train, Marwell Zoo offers the chance to get close to over 180 exotic and endangered species: from ring-tailed coatis to majestic giraffes, endangered tigers to frilled lizards, curious meerkats to pygmy hippos. Open year-round.

Milestones Museum

Basingstoke (35 miles)

Step back in time with cobbled street scenes, post office, sweet shop, pub, penny arcade and vintage vehicles for a fully immersive day out and all inside so perfect for a rainy day. Excellent family activities and exhibitions.

National Motor Museum

Beaulieu (40 miles)

Home to hundreds of historic vehicles from ‘Bluebird’ to ‘Chitty Chitty Bang Bang’, and a collection of vehicles made for the TV show ‘Top Gear’. Beaulieu is home to the Montagu family who have lived here since 1538. You can also visit the Cistercian Abbey founded in 1204 on land given to them by King John and also get a bird’s eye view of the estate from the monorail, which goes through the museum.

New Forest Wildlife Park

New Forest (34 miles)

A chance to see both native fauna and some from as far afield as Asia and Australasia, from wild boar, deer, otters and pole cats, to lynx and wolves. There is also Go Wild!, an adventure playground, and an owlery.

Paultons Park / Peppa Pig World

New Forest (34 miles)

Something for all the family – younger guests will love to explore Peppa Pig World, while the older ones will enjoy the high-octane rides. There are birds and animals to see as well, and on hot summer days, you can cool off in the ‘Water Kingdom’. Open mid-February to Christmas but check their calendar for dates closed.

Petersfield Open Air Swimming Pool

Open from April to September, this lido is heated to about 27ºC.

Queen Elizabeth Country Park

Horndean (8 miles)

A large country park in the South Downs National Park and only a 15 minute drive from Wallops Wood. Open access woodland and downland including Butser Hill (886 ft), the highest point on the South Downs. Walking and mountain biking trails, visitor centre, cafe and shop.

Red Spider Indoor Climbing

Fareham (12 miles)

An awesome bouldering centre with 1200m² of climbing to be enjoyed. The Kids Castle and Pirate Ship is a great play area, filled with tunnels, slides and small climbing walls. 

Rock Up

Whiteley (15 miles)

26 incredible fun climbing walls towering over 8m with multiple routes to their peaks. Rock Up the Twister, climb the Stairway to Heaven, or set a new record on the Speed Climb and more. Great for all ages & abilities. No experience or equipment needed.

SeaCity Museum

Southampton (19 miles)

From the fated Titanic, to the Pilgrim Father’s departure on the Mayflower and the cruise ships today, Southampton has always been closely connected to the sea. The SeaCity Museum tells the story of the impact of the Titanic on the city and the thousands of people who arrived in Britain and left her shores from its docks through an interactive experience designed for all ages.

Spinnaker Tower

Portsmouth (13 miles)

In less than 30 seconds, you reach the first viewing deck, 100m above Gunwharf Quays, for a 360° panoramic view of Portsmouth’s harbour, home to the Royal Navy. On a clear day you can see up to 23 miles, from the sandy beaches of the Witterings in the East to the New Forest in the West, across the Solent to the Isle of Wight to the South. The South Downs Café is on the next deck and you can feel the wind in your hair on the 110m high Sky Deck.

Staunton Country Park

Havant (11 miles)

There’s so much to see and do from visiting the farm and seeing the animals to kids trails and exporing the acres of ancient woodland and landscaped parkland. The largest Victorian glasshouse on the South Coast houses the giant Amazon water lily. The gothic barn is home to a soft play area and climbing frame.

Soft play for under 8 year olds and 25m indoor swimming pool with dedicated family sessions when the slide and vortex are open.

Thorpe Park

Chertsey (53 miles)

There are rides to suit all ages and the website has a system that enables you to plan your visit in advance and search which rides are suitable for children of different ages, based upon height. Open April to November.

Watercress Line

Alresford / Alton (16 miles)

Experience the nostalgic sights, sounds and smells of steam travel along the 10 mile track between Alton and Alresford.

Fares give you all day travel, so you can visit all four heritage stations with period charm. Booking advised especially for events. There is disabled access and dogs are welcome.

Wellington Country Park

Riseley, Reading (41 miles)

An award-winning destination for a family day out in the country. Beautifully rural yet easily accessible and perfect for children up to 8 years old.
